This piece boldly showcases the dynamic red of Arita porcelain, with a soft, rounded form that expresses Japanese warmth. In Japan, sushi is traditionally served in lacquer tubs with black exteriors and red interiors. As lacquer tubs are uncommon overseas, sushi came to be served on plates, giving rise to the NOBU style. Encountering Arita red made it possible to revisit the idea of serving sushi on red vessels—resulting in a collaboration between Arita red and the NOBU style.
